Online Certification Course from Adult & Continuing Education Center at York County School of Technology
Program Description
The Electronic Health Records Management with HIT course prepares students to use electronic records in a medical practice and utilize technology in relation to the medical field. By taking this course students will understand the use of electronic health information, while maintaining the medical, legal, accreditation and regulatory requirements of these electronic health records in the major areas of administrative, clinical, and reimbursement. Students will practice using a representative EHR software using the course’s web-based system.
Health care delivery in the United States has been greatly impacted by escalating costs, resulting in medical necessity requirements (to justify acute care hospitalizations), review of appropriateness of admissions, and requirements for administration of quality and effective treatments. Patients routinely undergo preadmission testing (PAT) on an outpatient basis instead of being admitted as a hospital inpatient, and the performance of outpatient testing and surgical procedures has increased due to health care technological advances (e.g., laparoscopic surgeries). Health care consumers are better educated and demand higher-quality, more cost-effective health care; thus, the focus is on primary and preventive care.
This program provides the learner with the necessary skills to act as a professional in health information and electronic health record management. Learners will be able to effectively document patient’s records with the filing and storage systems. Additionally, this course covers an introduction to coding and reimbursement.
